While you may have noticed the vintage boom on the red carpet of late, fashion’s favourite It-girls are increasingly incorporating archival pieces into their everyday looks, too. The likes of Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Rihanna are all avid collectors, with Jean Paul Gaultier, Roberto Cavalli and John Galliano among the most popular designers on the vintage market.

Other designer eras that have enjoyed a vintage revival include Stella McCartney’s time at Chloé, with both Kendall Jenner and Olivia Rodrigo sporting the French fashion house’s designs from the Noughties in recent months. Meanwhile, Prada’s archival looks are also becoming increasingly popular – with its crinkled skirt suits from spring/summer 2009 being particularly sought-after.

Below, see the A-list’s favourite vintage brands to invest in this summer.

Irina Shayk was photographed in not one but two vintage Versace looks while at Cannes Film Festival last month, including a blue bias-cut slip dress from the Italian fashion house’s spring/summer 1995 collection. The second archival look – a purple and turquoise lace-trimmed slip dress from Gianni Versace’s autumn/winter 1996 collection – could work for both night and day (if you can fork out the £15,000 price tag, that is).

Even Stella McCartney can’t get enough of her ’90s and ’00s designs, with her spring/summer 2023 show featuring some of her signature silhouettes from the era – from ultra-low-rise trousers to her famous horse print. It’s no surprise, then, that vintage Chloé from the period is becoming increasingly popular, seen on the likes of Bella Hadid, Olivia Rodrigo and Kendall Jenner.

Miuccia Prada’s ’90s designs are enjoying a resurgence right now, with both Zendaya and Hunter Schafer wearing recreations from her archive earlier this year. Meanwhile, for British Vogue’s Fashion & Film Party, Jourdan Dunn sourced the exact gold skirt suit from Prada’s spring/summer 2009 collection that she wore on the runway.

Vintage Jean Paul Gaultier has long been a popular choice among A-listers, with the designer’s prints from the ’90s and ’00s being particular favourites. Kendall recently added a new piece to her extensive collection: specifically, a Venus de Milo halterneck dress from spring/summer 1999, sourced from Opulent Addict.

Another designer that’s enjoyed a revival in recent years is Roberto Cavalli, with the likes of Bella Hadid, Kim Kardashian and Paloma Elsesser among the label’s fans. Meanwhile, Zendaya also opted for a vintage pink leather dress by the Italian designer from 2004 during a surprise appearance at Coachella.
